Improving global terrestrial telecom networks using Space-grade FSO technology

Free-space optics is going to be standard in inter-satellite communication, as it promises higher data rates over ultra long distances, when compared to radio frequency. Aircision is bringing Space-grade FSO technologies down to Earth, providing high bit rates (+10Gbps) over considerable distances (+5km). It is a solution that makes it economically viable for telecom operators to expand their coverage, increase network capacity (data rates) and reach more customers. Considering, 45% of worldwide population is still not connected to high-speed internet, our solution ultimately contributes to an increased access to information and education, and reduce the digital divide.

Beamsteering for optical wireless: opportunities and challenges

The demand for indoor wireless access to the internet continues to grow exponentially, creating high demands on the wireless spectrum, and the need for densely packed infrastructure to be able to meet this capacity. RF wireless systems are moving to higher frequencies, with the use of beamsteered RF links introduced as part of the 5G familly of standards as one example.

Visible Light Positioning for Industrial Environments

Nobby Stevens: In this presentation, the current state-of-the-art on visible light positioning for industrial environments will be covered. Starting from theoretical models, it will be shown why these approaches have inherent flaws that hinder a sufficient location estimation accuracy. It is demonstrated that a data-drive technique does counter the non-idealities of the transmitter, channel and receiver, leading to a very accurate position estimation.
