Photonic Integrated Circuits: FLAGSHIP – Opportunities in Optical Communications (VIDEO)

PIC Opportunities

Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) Opportunities in Optical Communications is a project which connects and involves the main Dutch industry players in integrated photonics, which are now jointly collaborating in the PhotonDelta ecosystem. The companies cover the entire supply chain from chipdesign, chip manufacturing, assembly, packaging and testing.

This project is presented by Invited Speakers Martijn Dresscher Ph.D. (System Engineer, TNO) and Paul van Dijk Ph.D. MBM (Vice President Strategy and Innovation, LioniX International). Both are involved in this Flagship project.

Paul van Dijk Ph.D. MBM (Vice President Strategy and Innovation, LioniX International) received his MSc. (1992) and Ph.D. (1997) in Applied Physics from the Technical University Eindhoven in the field of materials science and materials characterization using high energy ion beam analysis techniques. Paul holds a Master of Business Marketing (MBM) from TIAS Nimbas School where he graduated in 2002. He started in 1997 at High Voltage Engineering Europe (HVEE) as R&D Engineer using High-Energy Accelerator Mass Spectrometry for Carbon and Iodine dating applications and build up the AMS facility of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) in Mutsu. Since 1999 he worked 11 years at ASML where he was responsible for new business development and product marketing at the Special Applications and 300mm Business Units. As co-founder of SATRAX (2010), Paul acted as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and was responsible for Supply chain management, Business development and marketing of the integrated microwave photonics products.

martijn dresscher

Martijn Dresscher Ph.D. [M] (System Engineer, TNO) has a BSc in Technology Management (2012), a MSc Industrial Engineering and Management (2014) and a PhD in System and Control Engineering (2019). His PhD thesis was titled “Toward controlled ultra-high vacuum chemical vapor deposition processes”. He currently works at TNO in Delft, The Netherlands, as System Engineer. His main focus there is on optomechatronic system design for laser satellite communications. He is more specifically involved with developments related to high photon efficiency communications, deep-space communications (including Moon) and integration of photonic technologies.
